Axe Throwing Community Provides Invaluable Feedback to the World Axe Throwing League
The World Axe Throwing League (WATL) recently conducted a comprehensive survey to gather feedback from their community of axe throwers. The survey received a record-breaking 767 responses, with throwers providing both qualitative and quantitative insights on various aspects of the sport.
Thrower Engagement and Experience
The survey results revealed that the majority of respondents have been actively participating in axe throwing for over 2 years, with 57% considering themselves intermediate-level throwers and 68% throwing axes on a weekly basis. This wealth of experience and engagement within the community proved invaluable for the League’s efforts to refine the rules and maintain the integrity of competition.
Feedback on Rules and Gameplay
While the feedback was overwhelmingly positive regarding the Big Axe and Duals rules, with 82% of 607 responses suggesting no changes, there were some areas of concern raised by the throwers. The top three favorite aspects of the rules included the introduction of additional aim goals, the increased strategy and difficulty of the game, and the skill equalization between divisions. Conversely, the top three least favorite aspects were the 15-foot rule, the complexity and volume of rule changes, and the introduction of additional aim goals.
“The community’s views on the new aim goals were mixed, with the feature ranking both first for favorite and third for least favorite aspects. This highlights the varied perspectives and individualized experiences within the axe throwing community, underscoring the importance of continuous engagement and feedback from throwers.”
WATL’s Response and Future Plans
The survey results also revealed that 55% of throwers felt the new rules have lowered their enjoyment of the game, and 60% stated that the new rules are worse overall than the previous ruleset. In response, WATL will be discussing potential solutions with their Rules Committee and Council, with the goal of implementing changes for the 2025 season and beyond. In the meantime, the League will continue to gather feedback and review game data to inform their decision-making process.
The axe throwing community’s dedication and passion for the sport are instrumental in helping WATL enhance and grow the sport. The League extends its sincere gratitude to all throwers who participated in the survey, and encourages everyone to stay engaged and up-to-date on the exciting developments in the world of axe throwing.
